The Period Project
Want to volunteer? We had a lot of interest from people who want to join our renovation rescue team but who weren’t able to make it on Sunday. The renovations are for our new community space and Op Shop that will provide new and supportive employment opportunities for women experiencing homelessness and escaping domestic abuse situations. We have the space but it needs a lot of love can care. If you’d like to contribute to the renovations in any way please join the group and please tag or bring along anyone whom you think might be able to help us. […]
Christmas is a time of giving, and we’re absolutely delighted to be able to give these gifts to children experiencing homelessness this Christmas. Our very organised supervisor, Santa Simon and his team of lovely elves wrapped all 89 of these gifts yesterday and they’ll be delivered soon to make sure they arrive in time for Christmas Day. A huge thank you to Good360 Australia and to LEGO for donating us all of these beautiful gifts. There are going to be some very happy and excited kids this Christmas who otherwise would have been left without anything to open Christmas morning. Merry Christmas everyone. Thank you […]
It was so exciting to announce that we’ll be opening an Op Shop/ Community Connection space and Meditation Den in Brunswick East! But now we need your help to make it all happen! We’ll be having the initial meeting and plan making session at the new space where we’ll take you on a tour of this gorgeous place and together work out what needs to be done! We’ll have a BBQ running to keep you all fed then we’ll head to a local venue for a brew or two, to make a solid reno plan! We need tradies of all […]
How do you feed 600 hungry partygoers in an Amphitheater, making sure no one slips on a death onion? You call us! We were thrilled to be the charity partners for the Vollyspot Max Graef event yesterday, keeping hundreds of folk fed and safe from onion slippage as they partied the day away. We went through hundreds of delicious vege burgers and countless onion safe sausages. These gigs attract the best crowds. Super friendly and just all round good people. Thanks for having us along again, Vollyspot! What a great team we make! A massive thank you to all of our volunteers […]
OK people! We can FINALLY announce our exciting news! We’re expanding into Brunswick East and we just couldn’t be happier! We’re opening a combined Op Shop, meditation den, community space with life connection workshop programs that will benefit everyone in the community but most of all our most vulnerable. But we need YOU to help us get her ready for our grand opening in Summer! We desperately need tradies and tools. The space is gorgeous but she needs a bit of a facelift and it’ll take all manner of trades folk to help us get her ready for her grand […]
Looks so much like Melbourne, doesn’t it? People sleeping on the streets with nowhere to call home. This is New York City on the corner of 34th street and 5th Avenue. This is real and it’s happening everywhere. This is someone’s ‘home’. We want to lead by example and eradicate this ridiculously ‘acceptable’ human situation. People should not live like this but they do. We’ve seen with our own eyes, they do. Please, now is the time to knock on the doors of your elected members of parliament. Ask them what they’re doing about homelessness. Don’t ask what they’re going […]
It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside our Sanitary Sisters from the USA last night and joint in on one of their incredible Period Parties. What a group! ‘The Homeless Period Project is an incredible movement sweeping right across the United States, helping people experiencing Period Poverty everywhere. Together we made almost 900 Period Packs in just two hours, which were shipped out to schools and shelters immediately. We met Sharron, the founder who’s heart is as big as her country and we’re so fortunate to spend some time together learning from each other and sharing our […]
We need to talk about sex. Safe sex. Women experiencing homelessness do often have sex, just like the rest of the population. However the sad fact is, that sex is often to survive, make money, or, like the case of a lot of younger girls, to get a TInder date so they have somewhere to sleep that night and don’t have to worry about sleeping outside in the cold. It’s absolutely horiffic but it happens every day. And it can often be tricky to get access to condoms. We’ve recently had an agency who supports women experiencing homelessness contact us […]
This is a bit long (as usual!), but we’d love you to read to the end. Today we employed two new women to help us pack tampons at the warehouse. One of these ladies lives in a tent. Can you tell which one? It’s impossible. It’s also impossible to tell her apart from everyone else walking down the street. It’s impossible to know what she’s been through and why she’s sleeping in a tent tonight. I can tell you this though, she’s amazing and incredible and one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I love being around her. She […]
YES! This completely unfair and unnecessary tax might finally be abolished. …But they’re not “women’s sanitary products” they’re just “sanitary products” because trans men and non-binary folk bleed too. Let’s make it happen, Bill!
Today is Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2018. To ensure the youth we support know we care we and that they matter we were thrilled to accept an invitation to spend the day as VIP guests with the crew from HoMie. Our special guests were treated to a hair cut and manicure and each took away 5 articles of brand new HoMie clothing, plus a toiletries pack after enjoying some much needed pampering. Afterwards we all enjoyed lunch together and talked about our experience. Our guests felt amazing after their VIP experience and were still chatting about it days later. It […]
