Over the last couple of days, we have seen a millionaire sports star crowdfund for the purpose of “fighting for what’s right”…. that’s code for wanting to spread hateful and homophobic views, with no consequence from their employer.
Youth who identify as LGBTIQ, the very group being targeted, are over-represented in homelessness statistics. The main reason for this is that they are kicked out of home when they disclose their sexual identity. Every single day young LGBQTI people are discriminated against, abused and tossed aside – purely because of their sexuality.
We think funding safe beds to sleep in and safe places to live in is a much more worthy cause to crowdfund money for. Instead of spreading hate, we want to provide young LGBTIQ people who are homeless, or at-risk of homelessness, safe and stable accommodation if they are facing this situation.
This multi-millionaire has raised over $500,000 from people who think it’s ok to be hateful toward people who are simply born that way and are expressing their true identity. It costs just $19 per night to give someone a safe, permanent place to sleep, where they are welcomed and loved. A place where they will never be kicked out just for being who they are.
We feel money is better spent helping homeless youth to have a safe sleep regardless of their gender or sexual identity. All funds raised will be used to support LGBTIQ youth experiencing homelessness to seek safe, supportive housing. To know they are loved, they’re not alone and there is absolutely nothing wrong with who they are.
We would be very grateful for your support. Could you make a donation, within your capacity to give, in order to support our action?
