Today is the start of Homelessness Awareness Week 2019 and six months since Kala opened its doors. Our focus at The Kala Space is on employment for women experiencing homelessness and domestic abuse. We are so proud of each of the incredible women we employ. They are strong, talented and amazing. Here’s what we’ve achieved in only six months. Our focus now is on changing the employment landscape to encourage more businesses and companies to embrace our employment policies. Imagine the impact if everyone did this. We are so pleased to let you know about our new gift voucher system at our op shop, The Kala Space. For every dollar purchased in gift vouchers we give the same amount to someone experiencing homelessness. Buy a gift voucher for a friend and help someone in need at the same time! Last week alone we gave out over $600 worth of gift vouchers to people experiencing homelessness as a plus one to the gift vouchers purchased. On May 25 Courtney Herron was brutally murdered in Melbourne. Courtney had no safe place to call home and became the victim of yet another crime of violence against women. She was taken from her family far too soon and her death was We’re raising money to cover the costs of Courtney’s funeral expenses, to save her family from further grief at having to find funds to bury their daughter.
