Welcome to our Country

Yesterday reminded me of how much I love the work we do with this charity and the incredible things we get to do and achieve.

Yesterday we drove two and a half hours with a fully loaded trailer to help strangers who are now friends.

Yesterday I was absolutely honoured to meet 8 of the most amazing, incredible and inspirational women I will ever meet in my life.

These 8 women escaped the horrific and brutal regime of the Taliban. They fled their home country of Afghanistan and became refugees in ours. They spent days in hiding and crossed the border to Pakistan and eventually to safety.

I spoke to them through and interpreter and learned so much about their journey and their homes. They can never go back to their homeland and they have fled leaving behind everything they own and everyone they love.

They said, “What we have been through is very hard but we cannot have back what we left behind. We can only look forward now to the future. We must forget everything from the past.”

My heartstrings almost snapped.

The home these women are living in is big but it’s incredibly sparce and they barely had enough cups to drink from let along anything to cook with. So we went shopping and got them everything they needed.

When we handed them our gifts they smiled, they cheered, they laughed and they cried. They were so overwhelmed with the donations we had bought them and the kindness we had shown.

This is the incredible difference your donations make. Together we change lives.

They served me saffron tea and gave me some traditional food from their homeland. We spoke for a few hours and then it was time to go.

I left with completely different outlook on life to the one I walked in with. Meeting these incredible women changed me. They have been through the most unimaginable torment yet they still smile, they’re gracious and they’re grateful for everything. Most of all the fact they’re alive.

I wish I could show you their faces. They are all so beautiful.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have helped. We still have more items we would like to give them. They have nowhere to store clothing and no means of communication so we will be putting up a wish list soon.

If you would like to help with wish list and support of the women please consider buying a ticket in our raffle.
